- Note
- An engraving of Thomas Parr, surrounded by the title above and text by Thomas Heywood on either side and at foot.
The engraving is the same as the frontispiece in STC 23781 but has added to the plate: 'Hee dyed Nouember the 15th and is now buryed in Westminster: 1635'; see Hind, A.M. Engraving in England, III.255, nos. 6, 7; no. 7 is actually only a later state of no. 6, with Parr still looking left. (The only engr. now to be found at the Pepysian Library, Magdalene College, Cambridge is apparently this plate, with van Dalen's name and the inscription cropt). The copy in reverse mentioned in Hind, with Parr looking right, is without van Dalen's name but does have English engravin inscription except for 'Hee dyed ... '; it is found in a broadside with different French letterpress text: 'Le vrai portrait d'un homme ... qui a vescu cent cinquante-deux ans.' in Harvard University Library (STC).
