Description
[8], 254 p., [1] folded leaf of plates ; 8⁰
Note
A translation, by John Evelyn, of "Nouvelle hérésie des Jésuites" by Antoine Arnauld and of "Lettres de l'hérésie imaginaire" by Pierre Nicole.

Includes three of the four letters written by Pierre Nicole. A later issue includes the fourth, which Evelyn appararently did discover and translate until after the original issue of the work.

This title is not to be confused with 'Les provinciales, or, The mystery of Jesuitisme' by Blaise Pascal (Wing P644), confusion with which is caused by the alternative title. This work is not a) a translation by Evelyn of a second part of 'Les provinciales', which in some sense completes it and b) a second translation by Evelyn of 'Les provinciales' (Cf. Keynes, G. John Evelyn, p.124-125).

The first leaf is blank.
