Abercromby was a member of Boyle's circle, a principal recipient of Boyle's patronage during the 1680s, and, at the author's own request, translated several of Boyle's works into Latin (although Abercromby's name does not appear in these texts, the translator's prefaces are initialled D.A. M.D.).
