- Although attributed to Charles I, the first letter is in fact by George Digby, Earl of Bristol, who has signed it in "Two remarkable letters concerning the Kings correspondence with the Irish rebels" (Wing B4785; Madan 1810); the second, addressed to Nicholas, is signed: C.R.
The imprint is false; "may have been issued in London, ... a counterfeit"--Madan.
