This is the fifth of Milton's pamphlets written in support of the five Protestant ministers in the Smectymnuus controversy. Smectymnuus is a pseudonymn composed of the initials of the authors who used it, viz. Stephen Marshall, Edmund Calamy, Thomas Young, Matthew Newcomen, and William Spurstowe.
