- Originally attributed to Charles I, but, according to Madan (p. 125-33), written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the King.
The portrait is signed "Guil: Marshall delinea: et sculpsit" or "Guil: Marshall sculpsit".

- The Huntington copy on "Early English books" reel 2168 has been identified as the "2nd issue" of the first edition; it is in fact the third state; the same copy was filmed on reel 737
