Title spelling varies slightly.

Years of publication and coverage given according to Lady Day dating.

First no. issued with a title page (with double row of type ornaments) bearing the title: ’Mercvrivs aulicus,a diurnall, communicating the intelligence and affaires of the Court to the rest of the kingdome’, and the imprint: Oxford [i.e. London] : printed by H. Hall, for W. Webb, Ann. Dom. M.DC.XLII [i.e. 1643]; cf. Nelson & Seccombe 275.000B.

The title of another printing of the first issue (Nelson & Seccombe 275.101), presumed to be of this London reprint edition, reads: Oxford djvrnall: communicating the intelligence, and affaires of the Court, to the rest of the Kingdome. Cf. Frank; English Revolution and Nelson & Seccombe, 470.1.

The known extent of this London edition is based on that given in Nelson & Seccombe; it is not clear whether this reprinted series lasted as long as the original publication; the Oxford edition ceased with the issue of 7 Sept. 1645. Cf. Madan and Neslon & Seccombe.

The first and most important of the Royalist newsbooks, one of the few published in Oxford; later newsbooks of the period copied this title.

Variant printings of several issues are known; whether Oxford or London reprints is disputed by authorities in some cases. Cf. Nelson & Seccombe; Madan; English Revolution.
