Searching by publication year:

• To find every publication for a single year only, enter the year in both fields (e.g. 1687 - 1687).
• To find every publication within a range of years, enter the start year and end year in the fields according (e.g. 1687 - 1697).
• To find every publication starting from a given year, enter the starting year in the first field (e.g. 1687 - ).

Searching titles and imprints:

• To find an exact phrase, use quotation marks, e.g. "french bread"
• To find catchup OR ketchup, search for catchup ketchup
• To find both fish AND fowl, search for +fish +fowl
• To find fowl but NOT fish, search for +fowl -fish
• To find pickles, pickled, pickling and so on, use * as a wildcard at the end of a string, e.g. pickl*
• To find the words dressing, fish, and fowl within five words of one another, use "dressing fish fowl" @5

Searching by printer/publisher/bookseller name:

• This data is still a work in progress, so generally more complete lists can be generated by searching for variations of the name (e.g., search for "John Morphew" "J. Morphew" "J Morphew") in the Imprint field.
