BATLEY (JEREMIAH), bookseller in London, Dove in Paternoster Row, 1717–37. Published an edition of Quarles's Divine Poems, 1717. [Haz. II. 506.] Batley was also the publisher of Aubrey's Miscellanies in 1721, and shared with S. Chandler the publication of the Rev. P. Morant's Introduction to the reading of the New Testament in 1725 [Nichols, Lit. Anecd. II. 204], and, with Thomas Cox, Stackhouse's History of the Bible, and also published several novels and romances. [Esdaile, pp. 189, &c.] He died September 11th, 1737. [Timperley, p. 684.]
