A Dictionary of the Printers and Booksellers who were at work in England, Scotland and Ireland from 1726 to 1775, by Henry Plomer et al. (1932)
HETT (RICHARD) I, bookseller and publisher in London, Bible and Crown in the Poultry, 1726–66. Publisher for the Dissenters. In partnership with J. Clark (q. v.), and later on with J. Oswald. Treasurer of the Stationers' Comapny. In the London press of 1726 several advertisements appeared of religious tracts published by J. Clark and R. Hett, and in 1728 their names are found as publishers of a book by Jones, on The New Testament. [Daily Post, January 2nd.] Hett's name is found in Kent's Directory for 1738, and in 1753 he was taking subscriptions for Chambers's Cyclopaedia. [Public Advertiser, January 6th.] There is some confusion in Nichols's account of this bookseller, as to the date of his death. In one place [vol. III, p. 607] he says that Hett died in 1766, leaving two sons.
