WEBLEY, or WEOBLEY (A. and HENRY), booksellers and publishers in London, Bible and Crown in Holborn, near Chancery Lane, 1762 (?)1770 (?). This firm made a speciality of books on architecture and trade manuals; but they also dealt in general literature. They issued a catalogue in 1762 in which the following items appear: Palladio's Architecture, by Leoni, Folio; Ware's Compleat Body of Architecture, Folio; Fifteen large prints of the Churches and other Buildings built by Sir Christopher Wren, with four large and magnificent views of his Majesty's Palace at Whitehall, as intended by Inigo Jones. The price asked for these was three guineas each. Other publications to which special attention was directed were: The Cabinet and Chairmaker's Real Friend and Companion; Moxon's Mechanick Exercises; and Lock and Copland's Ornaments of Chimney's &c. In the Holborn rate books the name is generally spelt as Weobley, and their shop was apparently situated between Fenwick Court and Cursitor Street. The name disappears about 1770, when Isaac Taylor, the engraver, is found at the Bible and Crown. Issued a book-list. [A. Heal.]
