CHANTRY (JOHN), bookseller in London, (i) Pestle and Mortar, without Temple Bar; (2) at the sign of Lincoln's Inn Square, near Lincoln's Inn Fields, at Lincoln's Inn Back Gate. 1693–1708 (?). In the S.P.D. William and Mary, iv. ii. is a Petition to Parliament from William Fuller, dated February 23rd, 1691, complaining of libels written by William Pettis for Abel Roper and Chantry booksellers. Chantry's name first occurs in the Term Catalogues in 1703 as one of the publishers of John Brydall's Ars transferendi Dominium. [T.C.
